Jazz from Planet Flippo started its musical journey in Chicago in1992, with the name "Flippomusic Globaljazz."
Since then, the band has traversed several artistic phrases and recorded six CDs of pianist / vocalist Dave Flippo's original compositions and arrangements. A recent "Creative Catalyst" grant from the Illinois Arts Council will allow the band to begin recording it's 7th CD, "Four Chefs," in early 2025.
The ensemble presently has focused on creating arrangements of contemporary classics from the 60's to the present, all with a fresh, sometimes quirky, jazz approach. As always, each program includes original Flippo compositions.
The concert program the for the band would offer a blend of the examples shown on this page, including numerous contemporary arrangements, a jazz standard or two and a couple of the many Flippo originals in our repertoire.
